Aaryavir Sehwag, son of former India opener Virender Sehwag has received his maiden India U-19 call for a series against Australia The young right handed batsman has been named in India’s squad for a three-match One-Day series taking place in Rajkot in September.
Aaryavir has been making headlines with his bold batting style reminiscent of the panache of his day Dad built a reputation around. In the ongoing Delhi Premier League 2026, he has been one of the most attacking strokemakers for West Delhi Lions. He then gained selection from the national junior selectors, thanks in no small part to his performances at domestic level.
Earlier in 2024 Cooch Behar Trophy, the toddler had hogged the limelight by scoring a mammoth 297 against Meghalaya. That innings emphasised his balance and ability to bat long while still looking threatening.
Wicketkeeper-batter Anvay Dravid is also part of India’s U19 One-Day team. He kept his spot after impressing on India’s U19 tour of Sri Lanka in July, contributing a vital 87. Aaryavir nor Anvay has been picked for the two Multi-Day matches against Australia.
The Indian team for the three One-Day games are to be captained by Lakshya Raichandani, while his vice-captain will be Yashbardhan Chauhan. In the Multi-Day fixtures, their leadership roles will be flipped over with taking on captaincy and vice-captaincy for Chauhan and Raichandani respectively.
The three One-Day-off matches between the sides will take place in Rajkot on 18,21 and 23 September. The first Multi-Day match is also in Rajkot from September 27 to 30 while Ahmedabad’s B Ground will host the second Multi-Day fixture between October 5 and October 8.
The young Aaryavir’s selection for his maiden India U19 squad is an important milestone. Having played a hard-hitting manner and his domestic record is good too and with plenty of room for improvement the Australia series opens up an opportunity to stamp forth being at the international junior level.
